RAJOURI, Mar 10: One-day farmers’ awareness camp-cum-Kisan Mela on the ‘Weather, Climate and Farmers’ was organized today here at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK).
The camp organized by Agro-Meteorological Field Unit (AMFU), Regional Agricultural Research Station (RARS), Rajouri and, Rajouri (SKUAST-J), was attended by more than 250 farmers.
The main objective of the mela was to help farmers to manage weather related uncertainties in day to day agricultural activities. The major attractions of the Kisan Mela was to exhibit the technologies developed at KVK and RARS Rajouri, departments of Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, Fisheries, Sericulture, Apiculture, etc and other allied sectors.
The chief guest of the function, Dr KS Risam, Director Extension, inaugurated the exhibition and interacted with the officers from line departments, who displayed their stalls for dissemination to the farmers.
In his presidential address, he emphasized upon the farming community to adopt modern technologies like agro advisory services, integrated pest and nutrient management and adoption of mechanized/customized farming systems to improve the livelihood of the people of the area.
Dr Vikas Tandon, programme coordinator KVK, motivated the farmers to take maximum advantage from this awareness programme.
Among others, Sadaqat Choudhary, CAO, Dr Sarfaraz, District Sheep Husbandry Officer, Dr Riyaz, Chief Animal Husbandry and Desraj, DDM NABARD, were present and interacted with farmers about different schemes of their departments.
Dr BC Sharma, Principal Nodal Officer, AMFU, highlighted the use of climate based agro-advisories in day to day agriculture activities and stressed upon the farmers to make more and more utilization of Gramin Krishi Mausam Sewa (GKMS) Services rendered by India Metrological Department (IMD).
Dr Rohit Sharma, Technical Officer (Agro-Meteorology) gave information on importance of agromet advisory services.
Kisan Goshthi was also organized during the event in which farmers had interaction with the scientists of the university. An exhibition of farmers’ products was also raised and best farmers were given appreciation. A technical bulletin by Dr Vikas Sharma on seed production was released on the occasion.
