Pensioners, village guards hold protest

KATHUA, Mar 10: Village guards and State pensioners held protest dharna at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Park here today and demanded release of 17 % DA and regularization of village guards as class IV employees as done in West Bengal.
A large number of State pensioners who assembled at the City Park demanded immediate release of  10 % and 7 % DA installments and fourth installment of 6th Pay Commission arrears. Balak Ram, district president of State Pensioners Association sought issuance of orders for raising pension by 20 to 100% after the age of 80 up to 100 years age to bring the pensioners of J&K at par with Central Government pensioners. They also demanded enhancement of Medical allowance from Rs 300 to Rs 1000 as the same scale was going on for the last over two decades. They said keeping in view the inflation rate, the Govt must raise the Medical allowance to the reasonable hike of  minimum Rs 1000 per month.
The village guards at the protest dharna demanded their regularization as Class IV employees on the pattern of West Bengal. Ajeet Raj, district president of the Village Guards Union Kathua was leading the protest.
