JAMMU, Mar 11: A security guard of a private security group allegedly shot himself to death with his service rifle in this winter capital of the State.
According to Incharge police post Parade, Rahul Mahajan, a security guard identified as Swaran Singh (50), a resident of Thathri in Doda district (presently residing at Bantalab), who was deployed with Muthoot Finance Limited, Branch Purani Mandi, allegedly shot himself with his 12 bore rifle during duty hours on under-construction 3rd floor of Rajput Sabha building. The branch of Muthoot Finance Company is housed on second floor.
Hearing the gun shot, the officials of the company rushed to the spot and found the security guard lying dead on the ground. They informed the police which reached the spot and shifted the dead body to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Jammu, where after conducting post mortem and completing other legal formalities, the body of the deceased guard was handed over to its legal heirs for last rites.
Police said that neither a suicide note nor any suspicious material was found from the spot. However, a case has been registered and investigations started under 174 CrPC.
Meanwhile, in a statement issued here, RM Diwan, General Manager, Muthoot Finance Limited said, “The deceased security guard was not employee of Muthoot Finance and the incident happened outside our branch premises”.
Diwan said that the deceased was an armed guard employed by a local security agency for one of their branches in Jammu, adding none of their staff is involved in the incident. He, however, extended his prayers and deep condolences to the family of the deceased.
