Release funds to PRIs on priority: Sagar

SRINAGAR, Aug 3: Minister for Rural Development, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Ali Mohammad Sagar today said that there should be no delay in the release of funds to the Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) by concerned 14 departments with which they have recently been empowered.
The Minister was addressing officers at a high level meeting convened to discuss the release of funds to the Panchayati Raj Institutions by concerned departments. Director General Accounts and Treasuries, Wali Mohammad Bhat, Commissioner Secretary, Rural Development, Farooq Ahmed Peer, Director Rural Development, Srinagar Mir Altaf Ahmed and other senior officers were present.
The Minister asked the officers to ensure that the funds are released to the PRIs on priority so that they can effectively carry on the various developmental activities in their respective areas. He said “we have to ensure that there should be no delay in the release of funds as it can adversely affect the smooth functioning of the Panchayats.”
Mr. Sagar asked the officers to closely monitor the status of release of funds on a periodic basis so that any delay can be effectively done away with.
The Minister said that the Government has already empowered the PRIs with 14 vital departments and the concerned Additional Development Commissioners have been designated as Nodal Officers to monitor the status of implementation of the empowerment and also remove the bottlenecks if any.
