SRINAGAR, Mar 12: Dozens of leper patients today protested against the Srinagar Municipal Commissioner, for his failure to construct residential quarters for them at Lalbazar here.
The old-aged patients who are living a socially imposed secluded life at Lalbazar said that they are living a miserable life at the colony because the SMC has failed to construct quarters for them.
“The Government had sanctioned Rs 25 crore for our quarters. But SMC built only 35 till now. It has failed to raise 20 more quarters for them,” Sharief-ud-Din Sheikh, an old aged leper patient said.
He said that despite their repeated visits to the Municipal Commissioner nothing has been done.
The lepers appealed to the Government to visit their colony and address their grievance.
