Sharma takes over as JU VC

JAMMU, Mar 13: Prof R D Sharma has taken over as Vice-Chancellor of Jammu University for a complete tenure of three years after the Governor House today issued a formal order for his appointment on the top post with immediate effect.
According to a Raj Bhawan spokesman, the Governor of J&K and Chancellor of Jammu University, N N Vohra in consultation with Chief Minister Mufti Mohd Sayeed, who is Pro-Chancellor of the University, has appointed Prof R D Sharma-presently Acting Vice-Chancellor  of JU, as VC for a period of three years from the date he takes over charge.
Prof Sharma’s appointment as VC has brought to a close the selection process, which commenced in November 2014, the spokesman added.
Pertinent to mention that following sudden resignation of then Vice-Chancellor Prof M P S Ishar   in October last, Prof R D Sharma was given the charge of VC till further orders while a Search Committee was also constituted by the Governor.
The Excelsior had exclusively reported in today’s edition that Prof Sharma was likely to be appointed as JU Vice-Chancellor as selection process in this regard was almost completed.
With the taking over of Prof Sharma as the Vice-Chancellor, JU has gotten a local VC from within the University after a gap of two decades.
Soon after taking over as the VC, Prof Sharma told the Excelsior that  restoration of  discipline in Jammu University, consolidation of existing course, reforms in examination system,  strengthening Under Graduate courses and proper care of off-site campus would be among his top  priorities.
He reiterated his resolve to make Jammu University as one of top varsities in country and hoped full cooperation in this regard from all the stakeholders, including faculty members, officers, non-teaching employees, scholars and the students.
Born on July 3, 1955, Prof Ramji Dass (R D) Sharma served the Department of Commerce in Jammu University and has also completed a successful tenure of two years as Chairman of Board of Professional Entrance Examinations (BOPEE) before taking over as Incharge Vice Chancellor of JU.
Earlier, he had also served on various administrative and academic positions in JU, such as Dean Academic Affairs, Rector Kathua Campus, Controller of Examinations, Dean Faculty of Business Studies, Dean Faculty of Commerce,  HoD Commerce, Dean Students Welfare, Director Physical Education, Coordinator SAP, etc.
