JAMMU, Mar 15: Reiterating resolve of Government to safeguard consumer interests, the Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) and Tribal affairs, Choudhary Zulfkar Ali today said that efforts would be made to enforce implementation of Consumer Protection Act in letter and spirit.
The Minister was addressing a function organized by the Legal Metrology and CAPD Departments to celebrate World Consumer’s Day here today.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister assured that Consumer Forums will be refurbished and appellant powers will be delegated at divisional and districts level on war footing to make them more effective. This will ensure early redressal of consumer’s grievances at block and district levels, he maintained.
Reaffirming the Government commitment to provide better services, the Minister said that department will leave no stone unturned to ensure quality service to the people at their door steps, adding that consumer interest shall be protected by infusing accountability and efficiency in the system, so that buyers get their due for money in terms of quality and quantity.
The Minister impressed upon the consumer fraternity to be extra vigilant about their rights to enjoy the benefit of laws and acts meant for their protection and welfare and in this connection asked the authorities to aware the consumers about their rights and duties by holding awareness camps in urban as well as rural areas.
‘Our focus is to encourage consumers to take full advantage of their consumer rights besides meeting their duties honestly” he added.
Among others Commissioner Secretary CAPD, Director, CAPD, Deputy Commissioner, Jammu, Joint Controller Legal Metrology besides other officers and representatives of various organizations attended the function.
