LAHDC signs MoUs with TISS

LEH, Aug 4: Adding a significant chapter in the history of Ladakh, two important MoUs were signed between LAHDC and Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) Mumbai and one between TISS and IDBI at Council Secretariat today  under the chairmanship of CEC, Rigzin Spalbar.
The first MoU between LAHDC and TISS was signed in 2005 for five years and the present MoU is signed to further extend their partnership for another 5 years considering TISS reliable and remarkable contribution in the fields of development, policy making and projects implementation in the district. On part of IDBI it’s their initial step in the district and they aspire to extend their support and help to the people of the region through a collaborative effort with national reputed institute like TISS and the MoU signed between the both guarantees their statements.
Calling TISS a true friend of Ladakh, CEC said that LAHDC and TISS has stood the test of time and assured that the much delayed Vision Document 2025 will be soon implemented with the support of TISS which will fulfill the dream of future developments in the region.
Highlighting the unique topography of Ladakh and praising the Ladakhis for their strong resilience, Spalbar urged the higher officials from TISS and IDBI to extend their support, expertise and assistance in developing and strengthening of traditional and sustainable ways of living like agricultural activities, animal rearing, horticulture and pashmina produces. Besides, he appealed the delegates to promote value addition of the existing works that will ensure greater revenue earning and generate employment opportunities.
Clearing the point that Ladakhis want developmental achievements by choice and not by chance, CEC asked the delegates to take up developmental projects not by their wish but in consideration with the priorities of work sector set by the local council and administration.
On the occasion, Dy Managing Director IDBI B K Batra, Chief Gen. Manager IDBI Dr. S S Banerjee, Corporate Social Responsibility Advisor to TISS Bhaskar Chatterjee, Professor TISS T Jayaraman assured full cooperation and support for the development of the people of Ladakh.
Other among the delegates were Gen. Manager IDBI V Narayanmurthy, Asst Gen Manager IDBI Ravi Vijan and Project Coordination TISS Sudarshan Rodriguez.
