India, Pak hold flag meet, normal activities to resume on IB

JAMMU:
India and Pakistan today held Sector Commander level flag meeting at Octroi Post along the international border in Ranbir Singh Pura Sector of Jammu.
“On the request of Pakistan, a Sector Commander- level flag meeting between BSF and Pakistan Rangers was held today on International border near Octroi BOP from 1400 hrs to 1610 hrs,” official spokesman here said.
He said the BSF delegation was led by B S Kasana, DIG BSF, Jammu and Brig Wasim Jafar Bhatti led the Pakistan Rangers’ delegation.
It was first meeting between the border guarding forces after heavy shelling and firing experienced on the border in recent months, he added.
The spokesperson said that Commanders of both the border guarding forces, inter alia, discussed the issue of repeated cross-border firing impressing upon bringing much needed peace on the border.
It was decided to re-energize the existing mechanisms of communication between the forces and to hold meetings and contacts at all levels, whenever required, for maintaining peace and tranquillity on the border.
The meeting was held in a cordial, positive and constructive atmosphere, adding that normal activities including farming will now resume on the border. (AGENCIES)
