Governor visits Balidan Stambh as Army organizes light & sound show

JAMMU, Mar 18: Governor N N Vohra, accompanied by his wife Usha Vohra, today visited Balidan Stambh, Jammu as Army organized a Light and Sound show there.
Lt Gen KJ Singh, GOC-in-C Western Command, Lt Gen Rajiv Tewari, GOC Rising Star Corps and officers of Tiger Division were also present for the occasion. The show was also attended by a number of veterans, civil dignitaries and senior officials of Defence Services and Civil Administration.
The light and sound show depicted the trials and travails of the security forces and the population of the State in the fight against external aggression and terrorism since independence.
Prominent among the veterans, was Sub Maj & Hony Captain Bana Singh who was awarded Param Vir Chakra, the nation’s highest gallantry award, for his daring exploits in the frozen battlefield of Siachen glacier and Col Virender Sahai, who was the Company Commander during the battle of Laleali.
Governor appreciated the show and lit a candle in memory of the martyrs during the memorial service. He was hopeful that more visitors visit the memorial and get inspired by the saga of unparalleled courage and sacrifice. He stressed that educational institutions in the city and adjoining areas should organize trips to the Balidan Stambh to motivate the future generations and instill patriotic fervor.
