Anjum gets Special Mention Award in Photography

page10-2JAMMU, Mar 18: Daughter of the soil, Tabeenah Anjum got Special Mention Award in 4th National Photography Award 2013, the result of which was declared by Photo Division of Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
Overall, 10 photographers are going to get rewarded in two categories (five in each): Amateur and Professional. Anjum, who hails from Kashmir Valley and has been born and brought up in Srinagar got Special Mention Award in Amateur Category for her pictures peeking implied mean.
She will be felicitated by Arun Jaitley (Minister of Information and Broadcasting) on March 20, 2015, at New Delhi and will be receiving an amount of Rs 10,000, a shawl, medal and citation. She is a journalist, researcher and a vivid photographer.
This year the theme for the award in the Amateur Category was ‘Mother and Child’. Anjum has clicked photos in different villages of Rajasthan including, Bundi, Achrol, Sambhar, etc. The winning photos will be displayed by Information and Broadcasting Ministry in different museums across the country.
Her aptitude towards the art of photography grew gradually during her university days. She got hooked to her hobby when she attended 15-day long photography workshop of photo journalist Himanshu Vyas. Later on, adding new leaves to her new profound love, she took part in various workshops including Apalak, which held at Jawahar Kala Kendra in Jaipur.
Apart from this, she has a notable academic record with degrees of Master in Mass Communication and Journalism and Masters in English Literature from University of Rajasthan. At present she is pursuing her PhD on the topic ‘Role of Social Media in Transforming Youth into informed citizens’. Apart from the newspapers, her she got her articles published in various Journals. She becomes the first girl from Rajasthan and Kashmir to have received this prestigious award.
Her excellence in photography had won recognition in the past too. She had won two awards at Jaipur Art Festival and Jaipur International Photo festival (won best photo award) in consecutive years.
As a photographer her preference remains street photography, heritage, photo stories – clicking women through veils, old shrines of Kashmir and autumn season.
