BISHNAH, Mar 18:  Farmers hailing from areas under Bishnah and Arnia Tehsils and adjoining localities held a massive protest rally cum demonstration outside Tehsil headquarters here.
They were protesting against the apathy of the Government and inordinate delay being caused by them in providing immediate relief on account of damages caused to their crops due to unprecedented rains and hailstorm.
The protestors passed through streets of Bishnah and raised slogans, led by senior Congress leader M K Bhardwaj, against the Government and local administration.
Addressing the farmers and local Congressmen and leaders, Bhardwaj lambasted the Government for its apathetic attitude towards the farmers who are under severe stress due to heavy losses suffered by them on account of vagaries of weather.
Bhardwaj further suggested that the State Government should immediately summon a team of experts from the Centre for assessment of losses. The enormity of losses is such that the farmers would be properly compensated with the Central help, he added.
He warned the Government to act immediately to clean and repair the Irrigation Canal and its irrigation minors which run through villages of Bishnah and Arnia Tehsils as the paddy season is near.
Ashok Kumar Dubey said that the casual attitude of the Government towards farmers is the biggest deterrent to the growth of farmers.
He further said that a glaring example of the casual attitude of the Government is that despite being sanctioned, the post of Sub Divisional Magistrate for Bishnah – Arnia Sub Division, is lying vacant, which is causing grave inconvenience to the farmers. He called upon the Government to fill up the post at the earliest to redress public grievances and provide speedy disposal at footsteps of the people.
Bhardwaj further warned that Government should immediately address the grievances of the farmers by immediately replacing damaged transformers and wires in villages and improving the faulty and irregular public distribution system of ration run by the CAPD.
