LMD books 3 auto rickshaws, several traders

JAMMU, Mar 18: Legal Metrology Department (LMD) today booked three auto rickshaws under Weights and Measures Act and also booked several traders.
Continuing with their efforts to protect consumers’ rights, LMD team under the directions of Controller Legal Metrology Satish Nehru carried out extensive checking in Jammu, Kishtwar and Kathua districts, said Manoj Prabhakar, Deputy Controller, Consumer Protection Jammu.
The LMD team led by Deputy Controller Taxi Meter checked 9 auto rickshaws and 3 were booked for using unverified meters under the provisions of Weights and Measures Act, he added.
He stated that in another inspection by team, Inspector Jammu Lower Pooja Kumari conducted extensive checking in Satwari and Airport area. More than 25 traders were inspected and six were booked for violations.
“One rice merchant namely AK Enterprises at Satwari was found in possession of rice bags for retail sale without Maximum Retail Price mark. The said dealer was selling rice bags at different price to different consumers. The case was registered against the said dealer”, he added. The team also booked one meat seller, one sweet seller, two karyana stores and one vegetable seller, he stated.
Another teams led by Assistant Controller Kishtwar Anil Verma and Assistant Controller Kathua Ajay Verma booked 8 traders dealing with different trades like scrap dealer, atta chakki and provisional stores in different localities in Kishtwar and Kathua.
Meanwhile, market checking team of LMD led by Inspector LM Jammu (U) Khateeb issued show cause notice to the Best Price Wholesale Store Management for displaying packages of maltagliati pasta in violation of Packaged Commodities Rules. On receiving the show cause notice the Best Price Wholesale Management accepted their guilt, removed all the defective packages from their store premises and filed composition application in the office of Deputy Controller Enforcement. The Deputy Director Enforcement fixed the penalty to the tune of Rs 30,000 which was then deposited in the office.
