GBDYB demands relief for flood affected Gujjar-Bakerwals

JAMMU, Mar 18: J&K Gujjar Bakerwal Desh Youth Body (GBDYB) has urged the Government to provide compensation to Gujjar and Bakerwal communities, who suffered huge loss in heavy rains and floods that hit the region in September last year and now again.
Addressing a press conference here today, president of GBDYB, Ch Nazakat Khatana said in last two weeks he visited far flung areas in districts Samba, Kathua, Jammu, Udhampur, Reasi, Rajouri, Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban and many areas of Pir Panjal, where people of Gujjar and Bakerwal communities who were severely hit by the devastating floods during September 2014 are totally neglected by the Government.
He said that locals told him that they received no help, relief or any compensation from the Government and they are living on the pity and mercy of God since the natural calamity hit them in September 2014.
The GBDYB president urged Chief Minister Mufti Mohd Sayeed to provide the flood affected people of Gujjar and Bakerwal community living in these areas, food, shelter and compensation for their loss of livestock.
