BSF, Rangers discuss firing

JAMMU, Mar 18: India and Pakistan today discussed the issue of repeated cross-border firing along International Border (IB) and impressed upon bringing much needed peace on the border.
“On the request of Pakistan, a Sector Commander-level flag meeting between BSF and Pakistan Rangers was held today on International border near Octroi BOP from 2 PM to 4.10 PM in RS Pura Sector”, official spokesman here said.
He said the BSF delegation was led by BS Kasana, DIG BSF, Jammu and Brigadier Wasim Jafar Bhatti led the Pakistan Rangers’ delegation.
Apart from cross-border firing issue, it was decided to re-energize the existing mechanisms of communication between the forces and to hold meetings and contacts at all levels, whenever required, for maintaining peace and tranquillity on the border.
It was first meeting between the border guarding forces after heavy shelling and firing experienced on the border in recent months, he added.
The meeting was held in a cordial, positive and constructive atmosphere, adding that normal activities including farming will now resume on the border, he stated.
