14000 toilet blocks sanctioned for schools

JAMMU, Mar 19: Government has put strenuous efforts on providing safe drinking water and toilet facilities in the Government Schools and Educational institutions in the State.
Minister for Education, Naeem Akhter while replying to a Calling Attention Notice by Dr. Shehnaz Ganai said that there are 24,265 Government schools with enrolment of 16, 68, 292 students and clear instructions have been issued to the heads of the institutions from time to time to make the basic facilities of toilets and drinking water available in the schools.
Education Minister said nearly 8000 boys and 6400 girls toilet blocks are needed as per the gap assessed and the Union Human Resource Development Ministry has taken note of the existing gap and sanctioned construction of over 14000 toilet blocks in the schools under the Swachha Bharat Swachh Vidyalaya programme.
He further informed that Public Sector undertakings like NHPC Ltd. & JKSPDC have also agreed to contribute in the construction of toilet blocks in the schools.
