NEW DELHI, Mar 20: BJP National President Amit Shah today convened a high level party meeting at the party headquarters here for a detailed discussion on various issues related to Northeast.
Among those present at the meeting were BJP National General Secretary (Org.) Ram Lal, National General Secretary Ram Madhav, Union Minister for Northeast Dr Jitendra Singh, Union Sports Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju, Senior BJP leader Vinay Sashasarbuda, Sunil Deodhar, Ulhasji as well as State Presidents and senior State Leaders of all the eight States of Northeast.
The meeting lasted for nearly three hours, at the end of which Amit Shah spelt out the party’s priorities for the region. He said, sovereignty, integrity and security of the nation are top- most priorities for the BJP while dealing with regions like Northeast and Jammu & Kashmir. He called upon the State leaders to focus themselves in their respective states locally for as much time as possible so that problems of the respective States could be effectively resolved then and there itself.
Referring to DoNER Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh, Shah said, under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Dr Singh is taking a keen interest in the development of Northeast and has started several new initiatives. He suggested to the State Leaders to give their representations related to development issues to Dr Jitendra Singh while the representations related to organisational matters should be handed over to Ram Madhav along with a copy to National General Secretary (Org) Ram Lal.
Shah also informed that he would be undertaking a detailed continuous tour of Northeast next month during which he would be spending sufficient time in each of the eight States.
Ram Lal, General Secretary (Org) advised the leaders to concentrate on strengthening the organisation at the State level so that the message of nationalism and fast track development could be carried to each and every corner of the North Eastern region. He also called on them to work unitedly to achieve the common goal of development of Northeast.
Dr Jitendra Singh made a power-point presentation to highlight some of the new initiatives undertaken by DoNER Ministry in the last few months. He particularly referred to the process of rotational Camp Secretariat of DoNER Ministry to be held in each State capital by rotation every month. While in January and February, the Camp Secretariats were held in Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh respectively, the next such Camp Secretariat will be held in Mizoram, he said. He will be himself available in Assam and Manipur from 30th of this month, he informed.
Emphasizing the importance of ensuring effective implementation of Government of India’s schemes in Northeast, Dr Jitendra Singh projected visual pictures of Swatch Bharat Abhiyaan launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Northeast by formally handing over the traditional broom to local residents.
Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju informed about the security matters related to Northeast and also the progress of some of the projects in the region.
