401 kanal Waqaf land encroached in Poonch

JAMMU, Mar 20: Minister for Haj, Auqaf and Horticulture, Abdul Rehman Veeri has said that out of the total 6225 kanal Waqaf land in district Poonch, 401 kanal has been illegally encroached upon by some people.
Replying to a question of NC member Dr Shehnaz Ganai during Question Hour in the Upper House today, Mr Veeri said that not only in Poonch, in many other districts including Jammu, prime/ commercial lands of the Waqaf have been grabbed by some people. He said that he was new to the department and has started getting details from the concerned officials. The situation is very painful and grim. The issue is very serious and all the members should help the Government to pin point it because everybody is concerned about it.
Mr Veeri further said that he will take up the matter with the Chief Minister and an appropriate decision would be taken how to get these lands vacated. The government may seek the other ways of imposing rent on the properties as well. Mr Veeri further said that Govt is actively considering to get the Waqaf land vacated or go for regularisation of lands or get rent from them. He said the rent is also revised from time to time. He assured the House to do justice and do what ever is better for the protection of Waqaf properties.
