UDHAMPUR, Mar 23: In a gruesome murder, an elderly woman was stabbed and then set ablzed by an unidentified person at the house of her relatives near Chopra Shop locality under the jurisdiction of Police Station Rehambal, here today.
The deceased has been identified as Rehmata Begam (65), wife of Mohd Gaffar, resident of Chopra Shop area Udhampur.
According to police, an unidentified person stabbed the victim and then set her ablaze after pouring thinner on her this morning. The victim was reportedly alone in the house while the accused fled the scene after committing crime. The woman was found lying unconscious with serious burn injuries and was rushed to District hospital Udhampur where doctors declared her as brought dead.
Cause behind the murder could not be ascertained while Police has registered a case for further investigation.
