Govt to seek one time relief from Centre under IAY

JAMMU, Mar 23: Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Abdul Haq Khan today informed the Lower House that Government would seek the funds from the Centre for one time relief to the poor families affected by the floods for construction of dwelling units under Indra Awas Yojana.
The Minister was replying to the supplementaries raised by some members to the main question by Mohammad Abas Wani. He said that Government is bringing more transparency in the working of the Rural Development Department and it should be ensured that IAY assistance would be provided only to deserving families.
He said the lists of IAY beneficiaries is prepared through PRIs and wetted by Gram Sabha. He said the selection list so prepared by the Panchayats is also verified through a committee at district level, in order to ensure transparency in the identification process.
He said that 75% financial assistance for construction of dwelling units is being provided to SC/ST population and 25% reserved for others under IAY.
Legislators, Nazir Ahmed Gurezi, Mohammad Altaf Wani, M. Y Tarigami, Javid Ahmed Mir, G. M. Saroori, Yawar Dilawar Mir and Asgar Ali Karbalaie raised supplementaries to the main question.
