J&K Assembly: NC MLC marshalled out over demand for revocation of AFSPA

JAMMU : National Conference Member of Legislative Council was today marshalled out of the Legislative Council for demanding revocation of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA). The MLC had moved a resolution in the Council demanding repealing of the Act from the state which was rejected by the Chairman Amrit Malhotra.
The Chairman said the Jammu and Kashmir Disturbed Areas Act, 1997 was valid only for one year and it lapsed on October 7, 1998. Hence, there is no Disturbed Areas Act into force in the state, he added.
Meanwhile not satisfied by the reply, the member shouted and created uproar in the House.
He demanded debate in the House following which the Chairman issued directions to marshal out the MLC. (AGENCIES)
