PHD CCI organizes conference on ‘Energy Sustainability in J&K’

JAMMU, Mar 24: PHD Chamber of Commerce & Industry in collaboration with Jammu & Kashmir Power Development Corporation Ltd and the Department of Economics, Jammu University, organized a conference on “Energy Sustainability in J&K through Renewables”, here today.
Dr Nirmal Singh, Deputy Chief Minister and the Minister of Power, was chief guest on the occasion. He   highlighted present condition in the power sector in J&K and said that the new Government was committed to make the Power Department more efficient and transparent.  He extended the wholehearted support of the Government to the industry and the investors.
Saurabh Bhagat, Secretary, Department of Science & Technology & IT, was guest of honour on the occasion. Other dignitaries who were present during the inaugural session, included Ruchin Gupta IRS, Deputy Secretary, MNRE, Govt of India, Upinder Singh, Director (Finance), JKSPDCL, Sudarshan Mundhra, Director, Simplex Projects Ltd, Vikrant Kuthiala, Chairman, J & K Committee, PHD Chamber, Mushtaq Ahmad Chaya, Co Chairman, J&K Committee, Prof Dipankar Sengupta, HoD, Deptt of Economics, Jammu University and Saurabh Sanyal, Secretary General, PHD Chamber.
Saurabh Bhagat informed that the State of J&K has the second highest potential for generation of renewables in the country and can contribute towards 17 percent of the total energy generated in the country through renewables.
Ruchin Gupta, pointed out that the State of J & K has tremendous potential for generating solar power of 111 GW, Hydel power of 1500 MW and wind power of 5000 MW, but the performance of the State in this regard has been moderate.
The Conference also had two technical sessions on Opportunities & Challenges in Renewable Energy Sector in J & K in the wake of Make in India & Financing & Regulatory Issues of Renewable Energy Projects.
