CJ pays surprise visit to Udhampur Court Complex

UDHAMPUR, Mar 27: Chief Justice of State High Court, Justice N Paul Vasanthakumar today paid a surprise visit to District Court Complex here.
He interacted with Bar members, court staff and Judicial Officers to ascertain functioning of the courts. Justice Vasantha Kumar also inspected the Legal Services section of District Legal Services Authority and was briefed by Principal District and Sessions Judge about the steps taken for disposal of cases of various nature.
Chief Justice issued directions for speedy disposal of old cases and cases of victims of motor vehicle accidents, consumer cases and criminal cases relating to grievances of under trial prisoners. He also expressed concern over the non-availability of competent PP/ Prosecution Wing to pursue the cases of anticorruption before Additional Special Judge Anticorruption Udhampur and issued directions for prioritizing and speeding up disposal of cases in pursuance to Supreme Court’s direction.
He also took the stock of the situation vis-à-vis relief and rehabilitation measures taken by the administration and status of applications and representations submitted by a number of victims of disaster to the Tehsil Legal Services Committees of the District and District Legal Services Authority.
Justice Vasanthakumar also gave directions to the Legal Services Authority for maintenance of record of the applications regarding grievances projected by the poor and needy persons, who come to the DLSA for legal services and monitoring of those cases regarding the action taken by the district administration.
He also inspected under construction court complex and issued directions for construction of lawyers’ chamber and immediate repair of bar-room, litigant shed and bar canteen. He directed for making available benches in the corridors of the building for the litigants.
