DGP reviews security scenario in border districts

JAMMU, Mar 27: Stressing the need for strengthening the border management grid, Director General of Police K. Rajendra Kumar said that greater synergy among security agencies could help in curbing the infiltration attempts and subversive activities of militants in border areas. He said that intelligence gathering is of utmost importance to improve our working in these areas.
Mr. K. Rajendra was on his daylong visit to border districts of Samba and Kathua. The visit was aimed to review the security and law and order situation in these border districts in view of the recent terrorist attacks. During his visit, the DGP convened a meeting of officers of twin districts at District Police Lines Kathua today. He sought reports on the status of investigation related to the recent incidents and the efforts put in place to check such incidents in future.
Mr. Rajendra asked officers to improve their intelligence gathering by strengthening their relations with the people. He said that coordination with all other agencies is of great importance to strengthen the counter insurgency grid. Regular meetings to assess the situation at different levels should be held to take necessary steps accordingly, the DGP said.
The DGP, on his way to Kathua visited the family of late constable Parshotam Lal at village Bandhore Hiranagar, who was martyred during the militant attack at Police Station Rajbagh. He expressed solidarity with the bereaved family and handed over a cheque of Rs. 10 lakh as relief to the father of late constable. On the occasion, he interacted with the gathering of locals and assured that all possible help will be extended to the NOKs of martyred constable.
The DGP also reviewed the performance of SPOs and VDCs in borders areas and asked for their proper deployment to improve their efficiency. He said that VDCs have a great role in gathering intelligence regarding the infiltration, anti-national elements and their harbourers in the far-flung areas. He appreciated the role of public who always supported the police and security forces in curbing the subversive activities.
Later, the DGP visited various border police posts to assess the situation and their working. He interacted with the people and the members of Village Defence Committees. He asked the personnel working in the border posts to be more vigilant against the activities of criminals, saying that the criminals are posing a great challenge to the law enforcing agencies.
Inspector General of Police, Jammu Zone, Danish Rana and SSPs of Kathua and Samba, Ms. Neeva Jain and Joginder Singh, were accompanying the DGP during his visit. They briefed the DGP about the working of personnel of JKP, SPOs and Village Defence Committees. They also apprised about the steps taken for bringing improvements in the professional policing and working of border police posts.
