Kohli for strict action to check overloading

JAMMU, Mar 28: Expressing grave concern over the poor condition of weighing machines installed at Excise & Taxation toll posts, Minister of State for transport, Rural Development and Horticulture Abdul Ghani Kohli today directed Commissioner Secretary, Transport to prepare a detailed report in this regard and submit the same within a week’s time.
During his surprise visit to the toll posts to inspect the weight machines installed there to check load capacity of trucks, the Minister was informed that two weighing machines at Excise Post near Rail Head Complex are in defunct condition hampering the purpose of these vital tools.
Taking serious notice of this laxity on the part of concerned authorities, the Minister directed the concerned officers of Motor Vehicle Department to deploy adequate staff at these points till the machines are made functional to keep a check on load and ensure strict adherence to  the norms.
The Minister said that overloading in trucks lead to accidents and traffic jams besides damaging the roads.
Exhorting upon the officers to work efficiently and honestly, the Minister asked them to remove all bottlenecks impeding smooth functioning of the department so that results are visible on ground. He directed the officers to take strict action against the erring drivers who indulge in overloading
Mr Kohli said that all efforts would be made to improve the functioning of the department.
Commissioner Secretary Transport, Transport Commissioner, ,Director Garages, RTO Jammu, Joint Director Garages, besides other officers of concerned departments accompanied the Minister during his visit.
