JAMMU, Mar 29: Jammu University Vice Chancellor Prof R D Sharma planted a sapling of Rudraksh Tree in the premises of General Zorawar Singh Auditorium Complex (GZSAC) to commemorate the raising day of the complex, which was inaugurated eight years back on March 28, 2007 by then Chancellor of the University and Governor Lt Gen (Rtd) SK Sinha.
This unique state of the art auditorium complex was named after the great warrior and one of the legends of Dogra history. In addition to an auditorium having a seating capacity of around 1300, the complex also houses Sheikh Noor-ud-Din Nioorani heritage museum and Rinchen bZamgpo Art Gallery, showcasing the rich traditions and cultural heritage of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh.
This complex is also a combination of tradition and modernity with presence of hi-tech facilities perfect for promotion of art, culture and academics. In short span of eight years GZSAC has been instrumental in organization of various national and international programmes, especially two oath ceremonies, four convocations,101st Indian Science Congress, UDGOSH, a North Zone Youth Festival, musical events along with renting out the auditorium to various constituents of the university, Government and Non Government Organizations, schools etc.
Others present on the occasion were Special Secrtetary to VC, J K Sharma, Prof Pankaj Srivastava, Dean Students Welfare, Dr Sanjay Sharma, Administrator GZSAC, Imran Farooq, PRO to VC, Vinay Thussu, PRO Ms Sita Anand and Ms Rakhee Maini, Liaison Officers GZSAC, R K Khajuria, Environmentalist, Ajmer Singh, Aboriculturist, along with staff members of the complex.
