DSS holds 111th Annual General Council, passes resolution on various issues

JAMMU, Mar 29: Member Parliament (MP) Rajya Sabha Dr Karan Singh termed the biannual shifting of State capitals as “escapist” as the Government stays away from the people when they are facing hardships due to extreme weather conditions.
He added that most sufferers of this move are the people of Jammu who have neither their second house in Srinagar and nor some other shelters to stay there like the people of other regions who have both the facilities in and around Jammu city.
Dr Singh stated this during 111th Annual General Council (AGC) of the Dogra Sadar Sabha here today. He added that due to untimely rains, crops got damaged resulting into heavy losses to farmers. He demanded compensation to the farmers’ community accordingly. Dr Karan Singh also demanded 5 marlas plots for border residents, as the same demand has already been accepted by the successive Governments.
The AGC was also attended by Gulchain Singh Charak, Former Minister and President, DSS, Jahangir Mir, Naresh Gupta, MLCs, Prof NK Dogra, senior vice president of Sabha, Tasadaq Hussain, Gambhir Dev Singh, Incharge Youth Wing, JS Babli, President DADAA, Mandan Lal Rangila, general secretary DADAA, presidents of district, tehsil and village Shakha Sabhas, representatives of Numberdars/Chowkidar’s Association, Maha Panchayat, various social and trade organizations including Chamber of Commerce and Industries and political leaders of Jammu province representing their political parties.
The proceeding of the meeting started with lighting of lamp by the dignitaries followed by a welcome song presented by the artists of Bhartiya Lok Sangeet Kala Sansthan.
Thereafter, Prem Sagar Gupta, general secretary of the Sabha read out the minutes of 110th General Council.
Gulchain Singh Charak, explained various achievements of the Dogra Sadar Sabha.
On the occasion, a resolution was passed which include stopping of wasteful exercise of “Darbar Move” involving huge financial burden on the State exchequer, preservation of cultural heritage of Duggar Pradesh by way of starting full-fledged “Duggar Channel”, conservation and restoration of the heritage units of the city of temples such as Mubarak Mandi, all heritage gates, heritage temples, ziarats, gurudwaras and churches, introduction of heritage education and awareness programmes at school level, saving farmers from the starvation due to floods and heavy rains, enhancement of the remuneration of Numberdars and Chowkidars and stern action against Sand Mafia involved in taking out the sand from the holy Devika even after District Administration has imposed the ban on the same.
It was also resolved in the AGC that delegations will meet the Central and the State Government for detailed discussion over the resolution passed and if their demands were not accepted, the DSS will start agitation.
