Fresh avalanche warning in Kashmir

SRINAGAR :  A fresh avalanche warning has been issued in seven districts of the Kashmir valley and Ladakh region following heavy snowfall and rain during the past 24  hours.
Meanwhile, people have been advised not to venture out near rivers, stream and nallahs.
The Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, said that an avalanche warning exists in the avalanche prone areas of Kulgam, Pulwama in south Kashmir, Baramulla, Kupwara, Bandipora in north Kashmir, Ganderbal in the central Kashmir and Kargil in Ladakh region.
In view of the above, Deputy Commissioners of these districts are requested to advise people not to venture in avalanche prone areas.
During heavy snowfall, people are advised not to occupy and temporarily evacuate those locations which are under fall line of avalanches.
The Deputy Commissioners concerned are asked to take all precautionary measures so as to avert any untoward incident.    An official spokesman said that in view of inclement weather and incessant rains, Deputy Commissioner Kulgam, Ravinder Kumar Bhat has appealed to people not to venture out near rivers, streams and nullahs in connection with grazing of cattle and sheep or any other purpose.    The people living near mountains and hills have also been asked to remain alert and avoid unnecessary errands to hill tops and steep places.
The District Development Commissioner Pulwama has directed all the District officers, Teshildars, Naib Teshlidars, Block Development Officer (BDO’s), Medical Superintendent to remain present at their respective headquarters and keep all the subordinate office machinery available to meet  eventuality that might arise due to incessant rains, landslides or flash floods.    All those officers who have proceeded on leave are here by directed to report back and attend their duties with immediate effect.
The DDC directed that these instructions must be compiled with in letter and spirit and any deviation on this account will not be tolerated.
In the wake of prevailing adverse weather condition District Development Commissioner, Ganderbal Showkat Aijaz has instructed the officers to remain present at their respective headquarters, monitor situation closely keep men and machinery available to meet eventuality that might arise due to increase rains, landslides and flash floods.    All the Tehsildar’s of the district were also directed to inform people to take all precautionary measures.
