Srinagar-POK bus cancelled after flood threat

SRINAGAR :  Karvan-e-Aman bus, operating between Srinagar and Muzaffarabad, capital of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) continued to remain suspended for the second week today due to flood threat.
Last week, the cross-Line of Control (LoC) bus service was cancelled on the account of Pakistan Day.    Official sources told UNI that bus has been cancelled due to flood threat.
The water level at Lalpul (Red bridge) in Uri was above danger mark, forcing its cancellation.    They said the decision was taken after consulting the PoK authorities in the interest of safety of passengers.    However, passenger who were scheduled to travel in the bus would be accommodated in the bus next week, they said.    The bus service was postponed on March 23 on account of Pakistan Day.
This is the fifth time that the bus service was cancelled this year so far.
On January 26 it was postponed on account of Republic Day while it was done on February 9 after drugs were recovered from a PoK truck at Salamabad Uri.
The service has helped thousands of families divided in 1947 to meet each other after India and Pakistan agreed to allow travel of residents living on both sides of the LoC on “travel permits” instead of international passports.    Despite opposition by militant organisations, the first bus was flagged off on April 7,2005.
