SRINAGAR, Apr 4: PCC president Gh. Ahmad Mir has expressed his concern over the deteriorated condition of Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, resulting in great hardships and inconvenience to the passengers.
In a press statement Mr Mir said the highway remains closed for weeks together causing shortage of essentials in the Kashmir division besides halting business activities.
While ridiculing the present Coalition Government for its poor traffic management, the PCC chief said that bad road condition has turned the National Highway into a death trap where number of precious lives get killed with every passing day at an alarming rate. Besides worst ever road condition, there is hue and cry about the allegations of rampant corruption by the cops manning the highway which becomes the main cause of tragic road accidents and there is no response from the Government except issuing condolence messages for those being killed ruthlessly now almost every day, Mir added.
Castigating the present Govt for its utter failure to arrange adequate funds for renovation of the highway in a time bound manner and in regulating the traffic movement on this lone surface link between Kashmir division and rest of the country, Mr Mir said that the stranded passengers in Jammu and Srinagar have been put to great inconvenience. He said the stranded passengers at various places are in miserable condition without food and shelter adding that there is no one in sight from the Government to take their care. Mr Mir has ridiculed the Govt for utterly failing to prevent road accidents on Jammu-Kishtwar -Doda and Jammu -Rajouri- Poonch Highways also adding that these roads have become death traps for passengers. He said hapless passengers are scared to travel on these roads.
Meanwhile, PCC president visited the affected family of Laden Chrar-i-Sharief, who lost their 16 family members after getting buried alive in debris due to land erosion very recently and offered his condolences to bereaved family and sympathized with them. He said his heart goes out for those who lost their precious lives in this accident and termed this incident very unfortunate and painful.
