JAMMU, Apr 6: Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (NPP) lambasted the apathetic and lackadaisical attitude of the District Administration towards farmers.
A team of Panthers Party leaders led by its president Balwant Singh Mankotia addressed hundreds of aggrieved farmers and border residents at Gandhi Park, RS Pura here today.
Mankotia while addressing the farmers revealed that the district administration has turned a blind eye over the plight and miseries of thousands of farmers.
He castigated the BJP-PDP dispensation for ignoring the interest of the farmers including the border residents who have been facing the wrath of incessant rains, heavy cross border firing and motor shelling and series of ferocious ‘Fidayeen attacks’.
Later, a procession of the farmers led by Balwant Singh Mankotia, Sham Gorkha, Kesar Parveen Advocate, Ashok Randawa, Gagan Pratap Singh and Anil Rakwal passed through several markets of RS Pura, and culminated at Tehsil Headquarters where they gheraoed the office of the Tehsildar RS Pura amid raising anti-Government slogans.
In the absence of the Tehsildar, Naib-Tehsildar intervened to address the grievances of the suffering farmers including compensation.
Mankotia urged the district administration to depute the team of competent girdawars and patwaries in the fields to assess the actual losses of crops and homes and provide immediate compensation to the farmers at par with the bench mark set for the farmers in Haryana and Punjab within a week or else Panthers Party would launch a large scale protest in favour of the farmers.
Mankotia also exhorted the State Government to issue a white paper on the distribution of the grants sent by the Central Government for the rains and flood victims vis-à-vis Jammu Pradesh and Kashmir Valley for accountability and transparency.
