Transformer workshop at Udhampur being upgraded: DyCM

JAMMU, Apr 7: Deputy Chief Minister, Dr. Nirmal Singh while replying to a Calling Attention Notice by Ranbir Singh Pathania  said that Electric Maintenance and Rural Electrification (EM&RE) Division Udhampur caters to power supply requirements of district Udhampur spread over a vast hilly terrain.
He said 1994 distribution transformers are installed in Udhampur Division and the division had a transformer damage rate of 14.19% this year i.e. 283 transformers were damaged during the year in addition to 174 damaged due to rains in September 2014.
The Deputy Chief Minister said that Divisional Workshop at Udhampur can repair 20-25 transformers per month and transformers are also repaired through the Central Workshop Division and from local SSI Units.
He said out of 616 numbers transformers installed in Ramnagar areas as on date, 33 are yet to be replaced. Out of 65 transformers damaged since January 2015, as many as 32 have been replaced.
The Minister said that transformers are repaired and carried upto road side by Department hired vehicles and in case where the distribution, Sub Stations is located away from the roadside, they are carried by labour.
The Deputy Chief Minister said the balance 33 damaged transformers will be replaced progressively after repairs in Divisional Workshop/Central Workshop subject to availability of funds and material.
The Deputy Chief Minister said that to supplement the repair works, the workshop at Udhampur is being upgraded to Regional Workshop at a cost of Rs. 117.99 lakh. He said that the project has been cleared and sent to REC for funding. On completion of this upgraded Regional Workshop, the replacement of damaged transformers is expected to be accelerated in Udhampur Division which includes Ramnagar areas, the Minister said.
