GOC visits Sainik School Mansbal

Srinagar, Apr 9: The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 15 Corps, Lt General Subrata Saha, today visited Sainik School Mansbal in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district to attend a function of capacity building of institutions in Kashmir.
The GOC offered a series of enablers to enhance the overall capacity of Sainik School so that it can contribute more effectively towards empowerment of students and development of future leadership of Kashmir.
Lt Gen Saha was accompanied by Maj Gen Arvind Dutta, GOC Counter Insurgency Victor Force.
A colourful cultural programme was presented by the cadets in the honour of the visiting dignitaries. Among others who attended the function include DC Ganderbal Showkat Ajaz Bhat, SP Ganderbal Imtiyaz Ismayil Parray, alumni, parents and several other officers of the district.
While addressing the cadets, the General laid stress on character building along with the need for focusing on the development of the healthy mental and physical capabilities amongst the cadets. As reminiscence of the General’s intervention during the fire incident, the cadets presented the General with a portrait of his which was painted by them.
Referring the quote by the King Martin Luther Junior, the Lt Gen Saha said “Through scientific and technological genius, we can only make a neighbourhood out of this world, but brotherhood can be made only by us through our ethical commitments.”
The General dedicated a fully functional gym center to the school and gifted number of projects such as tour of students to various career institutions of the country as an yearly feature, conduct of Quadrangular Sports Tournament among premier schools of Valley, conduct of workshop for teachers on the best teaching practices and immediate measures for improving the perimeter security of the school.
Lt General Subrata Saha, who is part of the Board of Governors of the Sainik School Manasbal has been closely monitoring the academic and extracurricular initiatives of the school ever since he took over as the Chinar Corps Commander.
In response to the request made by the Principal, in the capacity of the part of the Board of Governors, he also promised to facilitate intervention of the State Government for the construction of the boundary wall for improving the security arrangements of the School.
At the same time, he assured of some immediate measures from Army in the form of fencing. He also exhorted the alumini of the school to remain involved and concerned about the school and make handsome contributions towards its growth and academic efficiency.
The Corps Commander on the occasion awarded meritorious cadets and teachers for their excellent performance.
After the program the dignitaries visited the hostel buildings which had been renovated after the fire incident. Later Army distributed wheel chairs, crutches and hearing aids to 50 differently abled people from the area.
