Inadequate funds kept at disposal of DC: MLA

JAMMU, Apr 9: Former Minister and MLA from Banihal, Vikar Rasool Wani today said that inadequate funds have been kept at the disposal of Deputy Commissioner Ramban for compensation despite huge damages caused by recent snowfall and rains.
“On one side Government admits that Banihal constituency has witnessed massive damages due to recent rains, avalanches and snowfall, on the other side it has kept inadequate funds at the disposal of Deputy Commissioner for disbursement of compensation to the affected population”, he said while expressing dis-satisfaction over the reply given by Minister for Animal Husbandry, Science and Technology, Sajad Gani Lone on behalf of Relief and Rehabilitation Minister in reply to his calling attention notice in Legislative Assembly.
Following his concern and on the intervention of Deputy Speaker, Nazir Gurezi, the Minister assured that all the affected people would be given compensation as per the norms following completion of damages assessment exercise by the concerned authorities.
Earlier, the Minister informed the House that 301 houses have been damaged in Banihal. Of these 41 houses were damaged fully, 86 severally and 183 partially. In addition to these 10 shops and 11 cattle sheds have also been damaged.
About 1000 kanal private land has also been eroded at various places in the constituency, the Minister said, adding field officers of Revenue Department are verifying losses and on the basis of the verifications, relief as per SDRF norms will be paid to the affected families.
“The internal roads have been blocked due to snow, slips, slides and flash floods and R&B, PMGSY, AFCONS IRCON and NAVYUGA are on job to clear these”, the Minister said, adding “it will take few days to open all these roads subject to clear weather”.
