JAMMU, Apr 10: All the eight newly nominated Members Legislative Council (MLCs) were today administered oath by the Acting Chairman of J&K Legislative Council, Jehangir Hussain Mir.
The new Members, who were administered oath in the Upper House this morning included former secretary of J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, Zafar Iqbal Manhas (PDP), former minister and legislator Ajatshatru Singh ( BJP), former legislator Ashok Khajuria (BJP), Vikramaditya Singh (PDP), Romesh Arora (BJP), Saif-ud-Din Bhat (PDP), veteran Trade Union leader Khurshid Alam (PDP) and Surinder Mohan Ambardar (BJP).
While Zaffar Manhas took oath in Urdu, Mr Ambardar, representing Kashmiri Pandit community took oath in Kashmiri language whereas, all other six Members in English. Mr Ambardar was clad in traditional Kashmiri Pandit dress with saffron turban. Vikramaditya Singh and Ashok Khajuria were also wearing traditional Dogra turbans. The Acting Chairman, Chief Minister Mufti Mohd Sayeed, Cabinet Ministers and other Members of the House welcomed the new Members. Later, all the new Members joined the House proceedings.
The election of the Chairman and Dy Chairman of the Legislative Council is being held on Sunday at 11 am at the J&K Legislature complex.
