Fire breaks out in hotel, tragedy averted

JAMMU : A major tragedy was averted when a devastating fire which broke out in a hotel here today was controlled timely.   The incident took place in the godown of Hotel Premier located at the Residency Road, few metres away from the Chief Minister’s residence.    “Due to smoke in the basement of the hotel, the fire incident came to the notice of some passersby and the staff,” a police official said.   He said that immediately four fire tenders along with the teams of fire fighters were pressed into service.   “It took around 3 hours to completely control the fire and douse the flames,” he said, adding that timely action prevented the fire from spreading to adjoining hotels and shops.   However, no injury has been reported except some damage to the goods. Short circuit is said to be the reason but the matter is being investigated. (AGENCIES)
