KATHUA, Apr 11: District Development Commissioner, Kathua, today convened a meeting of district and sub-divisional officers at Billawar to finalize arrangements and review the preparedness for 3-day Billawar Festival being celebrated from April 14 to 16 to showcase the spirit of Baisakhi and promote local folk art and culture. Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh is scheduled to inaugurate the 3-day festival.
Arrangements related to cultural programme, series of sports competitions, display of stalls, Information Education & Communication, Photo Exhibition, Painting Exhibition, invitation, sanitation, management of venue, connectivity, security, fire safety, potable drinking water, public participation, accommodation of visitors and other issues were discussed in the meeting. SDM Billawar R S Charak, who is also Mela Officer, briefed the meeting about arrangements made by Mela Committee and sub-divisional administration for celebration of Billawar Festival on Baisakhi.
The DDC laid out the plan for celebration of Billawar Festival which will have outlook of local culture, folk, art, music and also portray the local handicrafts, handlooms, agriculture products, farming, animal husbandry and other livelihood related activities. More than 110 departments, organisations, PSUs, Boards, institutions, industries, and entrepreneurs will have their stalls in the mela. He called upon the officers and mela committee to put in their best efforts to make the event a historical success. Promotion or rural sports and culture will be focussed for which Chief Education Officer and DYSSO have been directed for 3-day sports series.
A 3-member committee comprised of Tehsildar Billawar Dr Manmeet Kumar, Tehsildar Macchedi Mohit and BDO Ankush along with 2 members from mela committee has been entrusted with the planning cultural events for 3 days.
SSP Kathua Neeva Jain, SDM Billawar R S Charak, ACD Noor Alam, PO ICDS, SDPO Basohli Jaidev Slathia, X-En PWD, X-En PHE, X-En PMGSY, X-En PDD, CHO, CAHO, CAO, officers of revenue, municipality, power, transport, industries; Tehsildars, BDOs and SHO, members of mela committee including Bhupinder Bilowria, Kishore Basotra and Omkant Basotra, among others, participated on the meeting.
