JAMMU, Apr 12: Though National Conference and Congress worked as united opposition in just concluded budget session of the Legislature, they could face each other in the election scheduled tomorrow for Chief Executive Councilor (CEC) of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Kargil.
The numbers were, however, with the National Conference.
Deputy Commissioner, Kargil, Parsanna Ramaswamy told the Excelsior on phone that the election for the CEC will be held at 11 am tomorrow.
He said there were 29 Councilors, who will elect the CEC.
Mr Ramaswamy, who has been appointed as Election Authority by the State Government and also happened to be Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of LAHDC, Kargil, said the CEC is elected in the meeting and no nominations are filed in advance by any party as per provisions of the Council.
The post of the CEC had fallen vacant following election of Congress leader Asgar Ali Karbalaie as MLA from Kargil.
In 30 members Council, there were 29 members after Karbalaie’s resignation as the Councilor.
Reliable sources said that out of 29, 15 Councilors were with National Conference including four nominated by the Government with voting rights and 14 with the Congress.
The NC could reportedly field Haji Mohammad Hanifa, Independent Councilor from Baroo as its candidate for the CEC. However, there was no official word on the candidature.
One of the Councilor from Saliskote Aga Syed Arman is reportedly in Iran and would be unable to attend the meeting. He is an Independent Councilor affiliated to the Congress, sources said.
