SRINAGAR, Apr 15: Jammu and Kashmir Right to Information (JKRTI) Movement has impressed upon the General Administration Department (GAD) to issue the circular calling for reduction in application fees under the State RTI Act.
In a statement, JKRTI Movement Convener, Dr. Raja Muzaffar Bhat said that the GAD circular would make all the public authorities aware of the less application charges that have been done in compliance with the recent High Court directions.
Dr. Muzaffar pitched this demand while speaking at a meeting of RTI activists at Neegu Branwar in Budgam district today. He expressed his dismay that many Public Information Officers (PIOs) are not adhering to the High Court order passed in connection with slashing of the application fees.
He criticized the government for failing to make voluntary/ pro active disclosure under section 4 (1) (b) of Jammu and Kashmir RTI Act, 2009. He also expressed his concern over the cold shouldered attitude of the government alleging that awareness programmes have not been held on the RTI Act.
