KISHTWAR, Apr 16: Former R&B Minister and PCC vice president Ghulam Mohammed Saroori (MLA Inderwal), has demanded construction of four-lane road from Batote to Kishtwar.
In a press statement issued here today, Mr Saroori expressed grave concern over the condition of the Batote-Kishtwar Highway. He said the road has been badly damaged at several places and it has also shown signs of sinking at many places as a result of which the threat of permanent disconnectivity looms large in the area having population of more than seven lakhs.
He said that the road has turned into a death trap and can invite trouble any time. It has turned unfit for movement of heavy traffic. Saroori said the road is in worst condition and only solution is to construct four-lane from Nashri tunnel to Khelani-Doda-Phigsoo Thathri-Kishtwar up to Anantnag via Singpora Vailoo tunnel and by constructing this route it will be all weather road and will be shortest and feasible road so that the people of this hilly belt are relieved from their problems.
Referring to a road accident at Prem Nagar where one life has been lost, Saroori regretted that such accidents have become a routine affair but no concrete action has been taken so far by the Government to save precious human lives and improve this road.
