JAMMU, Apr 16: State Bhartiya Janata Party is all set to discuss several important and current political issues as first ever working committee meeting of the party after coming to power in Jammu and Kashmir, is going to be held on April 17-18.
During the two-day working committee meeting, which is being held at holy town Katra, the party is also likely to review the performance of its Ministers and the Legislators as well as the political situation emerging out of the fresh trouble in Kashmir valley, sources in BJP circles told the Excelsior.
Even as a number of routine issues have been listed for the discussion, all eyes are set on the working committee’s political resolution in view of the changed scenario for the BJP, which has come to power in Jammu and Kashmir in alliance with PDP for the first time, sources added.
Ram Madhav, BJP national general secretary and incharge party affairs in J&K, is arriving here tomorrow morning for his participation in the crucial meeting, which will also be attended by the Sah-Prabhari, Avinash Rai Khanna.
Ahead of marathon meeting of the State executive for two-days from Friday 3.30 pm onwards, separate meetings of the State BJP office bearers, party Ministers in the Mufti-led coalition Government and the BJP Legislators will be held.
According to the sources, the BJP office bearers’ meeting at 9.30 am will be followed by a meeting of the party Ministers at 11 am and of BJP legislators at 12 noon wherein performance of the Government vis-à-vis Common Minimum Programme of the PDP-BJP coalition will be reviewed. Ram Madhav along with Avinash Rai Khanna will be present in all the meetings for discussing agenda of governance, sources added.
The executive committee meeting will begin at 3.30 pm tomorrow with the address of Ram Madhav and State president Jugal Kishore. A number of issues, including the party membership drive and training will be discussed in the working committee, which will also approve the resolutions adopted by the BJP national executive, held recently at Bangalore.
However, all eyes are set on the most significant political resolution, to be adopted by the working committee of BJP because of the party’s changed role as a coalition partner in Jammu and Kashmir for the first time.
Unlike the previous working committee resolutions, sources explained that the BJP stand on the issues of West Pakistan refugees, PoK Displaced Persons, Article 370, return of Kashmiri Pandits to Valley, Armed Forces Special Power Act will invite special attention because of the changed scenario.
Pertinent to mention that before coming to power in J&K, BJP stand was well known for citizenship rights to West Pak refugees, free hand to Armed forces against terrorists, no compromise on AFSPA and abrogation of Article 370. However, the party has virtually taken a U-turn on all these issues and a discussion on the same is likely to be stormy in the working committee, sources added.
Further, the fresh trouble in Kashmir valley and the PDP reservations on separate colonies for Kashmiri Pandits in Kashmir valley are also likely to generate heat in the working committee, which will conclude on Saturday at 3 pm.
