JAMMU, Aug 8: Principal Sessions Judge Jammu, Jang Bhadur Singh Jamwal today awarded five years rigorous imprisonment and fine of Rs 10,000 to first female over ground work of Hizbul-Mujahdeen namely Jasmin Begum, wife of Ghulam Hussian of Marmat, Doda.
According to the police case, on January 7, 2011 Jasmin Begum was arrested for providing information about the security forces and other logistics to the divisional commander of HM namely Ghulam Nabi, son of Nizam Din.
From her possession, police recovered pistol along with two magazines and ten cartridges and after completion of investigation, challan was presented in the Court of law.
After hearing Advocate Kousal Parihar appearing for the accused person and Public Prosecutor Shabir Choudhary for the State, Principal Sessions Judge observed,  “a survey reveals that although violence levels are down, there are multiple levels at which militancy affects the State. Hardly a day passes by without an incident of infiltration, encounter with militants or busting of a militant hideout and the many instances of ceasefire violations, which are usually used as a cover for facilitating infiltration”.
“There has been an increase in the number of attempted infiltrations both along the Line of Control and the International Boundary. Unlike the years before, when infiltration would practically halt during the winter months fallowing blocked of the passes in the Valley due to snow, this year it continued to take place via the south of the Pir Panjal in the Jammu region”, the Court said.
“The judiciary of the State, and elsewhere in the country, is also dealing with the fallout of militancy. The judiciary is involved in long and difficult trials of hundreds of arrested militants and OGWs. The involvement of women and children in militant activities casts a serious shadow over the future of the State”, Principal Sessions Jude said, adding “in our State as well as in the country innocent people are suffering from the militancy related activities and large number of lives of innocent persons as well as security forces have been lost during the militancy and to curb the militancy the people engaged in the activities are to be controlled only by iron hands”.
With these observations, Court awarded five years rigorous imprisonment and fine of Rs 10,000 under Section 7/25 Arms Act to accused/convict Jasmin Bagum .
