UDHAMPUR, Apr 18: The PHE employees Association held a protest rally at Jaganoo under the leadership of Som Nath, senior vice president of the Association for Jammu province,in which workers and employees drawn from Jhonu, Barta, Sounthian, Baryal, Cherri Sewal, Kawa, Deya Bagh, Kahgote and other far flung areas took part.
While addressing Mr Som Nath pointed out that the Government has initiated lot of schemes but did not provide the wages to workers deployed to run these schemes as a result these workers were suffering badly but the authorities concerned were not paying any heed towards their woes. Mr Som Nath appealed the Government to release the pending wages.
The demands highlighted in the protest rally pertained to release of pending wages for the past 24 to 28 months; Implementation of Minimum Wages Act by enhancing their wage rate to Rs 400 per day; Regularization of Daily Wagers, ITI workers and CP workers who have completed five years service; engagement of requisite staff to end shortage of manpower for smooth functioning of the water supply schemes; Release of 6% DA from January; Change of designation as per the work being executed by the workers etc.
Others who also spoke on the occasion included district general secretary Vijay Kumar Sharma, Rattan Singh, Suraj Parkash, Subash Chander, Makhan Chand, Sham Lal, Manoj Kumar, Rajinder Sharma, Deepak Kumar, Sanjay Gupta, Kirpal Singh, Som Raj Gupta etc.
