SRINAGAR, Apr 19: Society of Dental Surgeons J&K (SDSJK) castigated the Government for neglecting the field of Dentistry in the State.
President, SDSJK, Dr Imtiyaz Maqbool said that performing dental procedures viz. extraction, scaling etc without proper sterilization mechanism in dental sections has been one of the main causes of spread of Hepatitis-C or any blood borne disease.
He added that while dental procedures are generally safe, this reinforces the importance of adhering to strict infection control procedures in dental settings which is being seen lacking in various dental sections and in all the illegal dental clinics set up by quacks.
He stated that the J&K State Dental Council (JKSDC) was entrusted by the Government to enforce Dental Laws and Regulation in the State. The council since its inception has done nothing but just acquired posts to glorify themselves and have a post- retirement name tag per se.
SDSJK stressed upon the Health Minister Choudhary Lal Singh, MoS Health Asiya Naqash and Director Health Services Kashmir/Jammu to intervene in this matter and scrap the autonomous power of JKSDC besides implementing the dental rules and regulations itself.
Dr Maqbool warned the Government and the health authorities in particular that if they are not serious in implementing the laws in letter and spirit then there will be rampant spread of diseases and increased number of deaths and the onus will lie exclusively on the Government.
