Ahead of elections, 35 more areas being included in JMC limits

JAMMU, Aug 8: Ahead of elections to the urban local bodies, the Government is going to include 35 more areas in the limits of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) and a notification in this regard will be issued shortly by the Housing and Urban Development Department in consultation with the Law Department.
Official sources told EXCELSIOR that keeping in view the demand from various quarters, an exercise for inclusion of more areas in the limits of Jammu Municipal Corporation was initiated by the Housing and Urban Development Department, which is having administrative control over the Corporation, about two years back with the issuance of SRO 316.
Following the issuance of notification, the Deputy Commissioner invited objections from the general public by giving wide publicity to the areas proposed to be included in the limits of Jammu Municipal Corporation.
The Deputy Commissioner even convened all party meetings to arrive at consensus on the inclusion of the proposed areas and following several months long hectic exercise involving disposal of the objections etc, the Deputy Commissioner Jammu prepared a detailed report and furnished the same to the Housing and Urban Development Department for further necessary action, sources said.
Thereafter, the Housing and Urban Development Department carried out its internal exercise and disposed of several objections, which were required to be dealt with at the higher level, sources said, adding “now the Housing and Urban Development Department has completed its entire exercise and is going to submit the file to the Law Department for vetting”.
“As soon as the Law Department completes its job, the Housing and Urban Development Department will issue SRO in exercise of the powers conferred by Sub-Section (3) of Section 3 of the Jammu and Kashmir Municipal Corporation Act, 2000”, sources informed.
To a question, they said, “the notification is likely to be issued shortly as the Government intends to extend the limits of Jammu Municipal Corporation keeping in view the people’s aspirations, before holding elections to the Corporation and other urban local bodies by the end of current year”.
According to the draft of the notification, the copy of which is available with EXCELSIOR, several parts of Deeli, Bhour and Gaddi Garh under Digiana Niabat, parts of Rangoora, Dhawara and Majeen under Sidhra Niabat, parts of Chak Rattnoo, Chak Challoo, Kailoo Chak, Sunjwan and Chowaddi under Bahu Niabat, parts of Dharmal, Muthi, Rakna-Nagbani, Akalpur, Sangrampur, Chalk Patyal, Gangwall, Thekri Khanie, Panyall, Patoli Brahamana, Machalliya, Shazadpur Bubba Ganiya, Chalk Durgoo, Thathar, Barnaie, Gajsal Pura and Gudda Brahamana under Muthi Niabat will be included in the Jammu Municipal Corporation limits.
Similarly, areas of Chak Pouni Wand Waziran, Chak Pouni Wand Brahamana, Sehora, Chak Gulami, Trilokpur, Kharian and Chak Sardar Atta Singh under Gole Niabat will also be brought within the limits of Jammu Municipal Corporation. Even the Khasra Nos of these areas have been mentioned in the draft to avoid any confusion.
When contacted, Deputy Chief Minister, Tara Chand, who is also holding the portfolio of Housing and Urban Development Department, confirmed that exercise for inclusion of more areas within the limits of Jammu Municipal Corporation was at final stage.
