Grandnephew of Netaji demands declassification of all records related to freedom fighter

NEW DELHI, Apr 21:
Grandnephew of Netaji Subas Chandra Bose, Saugata Bose today demanded that all records related to Netaji be declassified and the Government clarify the reason for surveillance on the relatives of revolutionary freedom fighter.   Raising the issue during Zero Hour in the Lok Sabha, Prof Bose, who is a Trinamool Member, said opening and reading of letters exchanged between Netaji and his wife was a serious matter and should not be treated as a political issue and allowed to degenerate.
“Mahatma Gandhi, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and Netaji Subas Chandra Bose were great leaders, let us be respectful to all these leaders,” the Harvard Professor of History said.
The controversy surrounding the declassification of files related to Netaji which shows that the freedom  fighter’s family was put under heavy surveillance for at least two decades between 1948 and 1968, is shaping into a political battle between the ruling BJP and Opposition Congress.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his recent Germany tour had met family members of Netaji who have  appealed to the Government to declassify all files on Netaji something that successive dispensations, including the present NDA Government, have been reluctant to do barring selective leaks and intermittent disclosures.
