JAMMU, Apr 23:With the motive to bring arts closer to the children and have its intervention in education, Natrang today released a children Sketch-Book dedicated to the art of cartooning and the legendary cartoonist R K Laxman.
Natrang director Balwant Thakur released the book in a function held at Natrang Studio Theatre, Jammu. Published by Sahitya Sangam, this sketch-book has been designed by the prominent designer, artist and cartoonist Shekhar.
On the occasion, Balwant Thakur requested Sahitya Sangam to publish more such sketch books and children literature and project local traditional culture, traditions, places, contemporary arts and performing arts particularly children theatre.
S K Gupta, Managing Director of Sahitya Sangam, Jammu, stressed that no occasion should be missed to expose children to the great traditions of arts. Such kind of initiatives will play a greater role in the documentation, preservation and above all the projection of the culture of the region amongst younger generations. This new initiative of Sahitiya Sangam will strengthen the movement of Natrang’s Theatre and Arts in education, he added.
Describing Arts and Theatre in Education, Balwant Thakur explained that
as the repression builds, art comes to be regarded as ‘time off for good behaviour’ or as ‘therapy'” and how the ease and care freeness of the arts are supposed to bring joy and a sense of calmness. It is used to destroy the monotony of a regular school day, put a dent in the relentlessness of arithmetic and reading, he added.
