JAMMU, Apr 25: Central Government Pensioners’ Welfare Association J&K today held its 20th Annual General Body Meeting, here at Jammu Club.
Minister for Education Naeem Akhter was chief guest on the occasion. Pensioners’ Journal and Members Directory 2015 was released by the chief guest.
Central Government Pensioners’ Welfare Association (CGPWA) with 253 registered members represents 323 central services and has been nominated by the Government of India as Nodal Association for central pensioners of the State.
While addressing the gathering of veteran public servants, the Minister lauded efforts of the association in giving the members and senior citizens a healthy vibrant forum for sharing thoughts and discussing issues of larger public interest. He said the association through its seminars and presentations on social topics provides valuable inputs to the society.
“Members of the association have vast practical knowledge from their service and these experiences can surely be a guiding light for present generation,” he added.
President of the association S.S. Wazir highlighted the activities of the CGPWA which include welfare activities for the civil society in general and for pensioners and their families in particular.
On the occasion, Dr. C.M.Seth, a noted environmentalist and Forester gave an impressive thought provoking power point presentation on global warming and environment impact of the phenomenon. The presentation covered in detail the issue of global warming at world level and its impact on the present changing weather conditions in the country.
Patron V.P. Sharma gave a brief historical account of the association. Vice President B.K. Raina presented vote of thanks.
The Minister also distributed awards of recognition to senior members of the association Sarv Sreshth Varishth Nagrik award was presented to centenarian member Dwarka Nath Gupta and Jyeshth Varishth Nagrik awards were presented to M.M. Munshi, S.C. Gupta, N.L. Bakshi, Sujjan Singh and Swami Raj Sharma.
Prominent among those who attended the annual meeting include, K.B. Jandial, S.D. Swatantra, A.M. Watali and other members of the association.
