Modi disapproves sharp reaction by fans over WC defeat

NEW DELHI, Apr 26:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi today expressed his dismay and disapproval at the reaction given by some cricket fans after India’s defeat in World Cup semi finals against Australia saying, ”This was not good and exhorted them to ”learn from defeats too”.
Speaking over the issue in his ‘Mann Ki Baat’, programme on the All India  Radio, Mr Modi said “The manner in which some people reacted by using inappropriate comments and expressions after our team’s defeat in semi-final match against Australia, was not good. ”How can there be a game where there is no defeat? We all should know that triumph and defeat are parts of the life, should accept them and try to learn from them.”
“In the situation of defeat of our players, instead of reacting, we should do something to boost their moral and should keep in mind that we do nothing that brings disrespect to nation.
“I see that sometimes when some sudden mishap or an accident  takes place, mob resorts to damaging or setting vehicles afire, what is the point in such a behaviour, by burning vehicle or something we cannot bring back the dead to life, rather we are supposed to maintain cool”, Mr Modi said.
“Today thinking of such incidents, particularly of the natural calamities, I do feel sad, but we are required to keep ourselves calm and composed and work with patience and self confidence for upkeep of work in progress and prosperity of the nation.
He also wished students of class 10 and 12, who have recently finished their annual examinations and are gearing up for their summer vacations. “Have entertaining vacations with family and learn something new also”, he said.
Hailing Indian rescue operations in Yemen, Mr Modi said thousands of Indians trapped there were evacuated amid war in the backdrop of firing and heavy shelling of bombs. “Our rescuers performed the task well, this was hailed world-over”, he said, adding that “when I was in France recently, I was greeted for it, we have rescued people from 48 countries including the US, the UK, Russia and Germany”, the Prime Minister said.
“Cadres from our Foreign service, Army, Air Force and Navy, all did their task with patience and responsibility”, he said. “In France, I also went to World War I Memorial for paying respect to war heroes in the centenary year this year”, he said, adding that very few people were aware of the fact that 15 lakh Indian soldiers participated in that war and 74,000 laid their supreme sacrifice.
This is also matter of pride that 9,200 of these martyrs were conferred with gallantry awards including 11 with the Victoria Cross. In this war, 4,700 Indian troopers attained martyrdom while fighting at different locations in France, the memorial is made in honour of these Indian martyrs, he said adding that, “I went there to salute these sons of India”.
In his address, the Prime Minister also referred to two events that were part of the Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar’s 125th birth anniversary, saying ‘both events gave me great feeling of satisfaction’. “One allotment of the land for construction of Baba Saheb’s memorial in Mumbai on a plot that was disputed for many years and second is the decision of bringing up an international center in his name in New Delhi.  (PTI)
