Residents demand arrest in felling of walnut trees

SRINAGAR, Apr 27: The residents of Hafroo Batpora of Budgam district demanded arrest of Zahoor Ahmad Bhat who allegedly felled 12 walnut trees.
The walnut trees were the property of the Auqaf Trust of the mosque and graveyard at Hafroo Batpora village.
The residents held a demonstration at the Press Enclave here demanding immediate arrest of the culprit. The residents said that the walnut trees bore nuts and were cut down by Zahoor on April 14 in broad day light.
The residents said that though they had filed an FIR against the walnut tree feller in a local police station but no action has been taken against Zahoor so far.
When contacted Deputy Commissioner Budgam said that an FIR has been lodged under 436A. “I have referred the matter to SSP Budgam for investigation and appropriate action”, he said.
